E.J. Connellan Award Conditions
1. AIM: The aim of the EJ Connellan
Award (herein called an award) is to give the
opportunity, by the provision of financial support, to people
living in isolated areas of Australia to undertake further
studies or research of a kind not otherwise readily available
to them.
2. QUALIFICATIONS: There are
no specific pre-requisites for applicants. Merit is the primary
criterion, based on either past, or demonstrated ability for
future achievement in any endeavour acceptable to the Connellan
Airways Trust (herein called the Trust).
3. CITIZENSHIP: An award will
usually be confined to Australian nationals but may be awarded
to others who can prove to the Trusts satisfaction their
intention to remain permanent residents of Australia.
4. AGE: Two awards may be granted: Junior 16 – 25 years of age and Senior 26 years of age and over. There is no upper age limit but awards will usually be made to persons who have the potential to make a major contribution in the area of their endeavour.
5. CONTRACT: The receipt of an
award is subject to the beneficiary agreeing to be bound by
the conditions here expressed and such others required by
the Trust.
6. SUPPORT FROM OTHER SOURCES:
In making an award, the Trust will take account of other existing
sources of support for particular types of study or training
and will avoid duplicating the activities of other bodies.
7. DURATION: The award will be
offered for an activity that will conclude in less than twelve
months. A longer period may be allowed in special circumstances.
8. CONTRIBUTION: A beneficiary
will be expected to make a financial contribution to the programme
of at least 30% of the total estimated expenses.
9. LIABILITY: The liability of
the Trust for an award will be limited to the amount defined
when the award is offered.
10. HEALTH: The granting of an
award will be subject to the prior provision to the Trust
of evidence to its satisfaction that the beneficiary does
not suffer from any ailment or disability which might interfere
with the completion of the subject or programme.
11. PASSPORTS: A beneficiary
will be responsible for obtaining necessary passports, visas,
and other formal travel requisites.
12. INSURANCE: A beneficiary
will be responsible for making prior adequate arrangements
for insurance to cover medical and other related expenses
that might arise during the programme. Proof of such insurance
must be furnished to the Trust.
13. ILLNESS: Illness, accident,
or bereavement, which reduces the effective tenure of a beneficiary
will not automatically entitle the beneficiary to an extension
of the original period of tenure, though the Trust may grant
an extension if it thinks fit.
14. TERMINATION: An award may
be suspended or terminated before the approved completion
date if, in the opinion of the Trust, the beneficiary:
- has an adequate reason for
requiring such
- has performed unsatisfactorily
- has failed to observe any
condition of the award
- is guilty of misconduct.
15. REFUNDS: Any monies, tickets,
or other contribution made by the Trust to a beneficiary in
respect of a portion of a programme which is not completed,
must be refunded to the Trust. If any contribution is not
expended, such is to be refunded to the Trust.
16. Applicants should satisfy
the Trust that they intend to return to the isolated areas
of Outback Australia, or show how they intend to assist residents
of such areas.

but are not limited to:

be acknowledged if a stamped, self-addressed envelope is enclosed.
20. Applications will be considered
by the Trust
in or about the following February. An applicant may be required
to be interviewed.
21. Applicants will be notified
of the Trusts decision by the end of the following March.
